This was the first time the Motordirex
Mini Moto team would see the newly built karting circuit by the
Westwood Karting Association at Mission Raceway. This would also
be the first mini moto machines would turn a wheel in anger with
only one test session prior to this inaugural event by the BCPBRA.
If testing was any indication to their speed, the Motordirex team
mates would run strong against each other as well as any other riders
in the Junior B class for modified air-cooled motors. Qualifying After two practice session, the boys would get into race mode with
a 3 lap qualifying dash. Points for finishing positions would be
awarded. Out of the gate, the 27 machine of Aiello Theys would get the holeshot
with the 69 bike of Tyrrell and Nick McComber on his 20 bike in
tow. Aiello would lead most of the race while his team mate stalks him
through every turn making his move on the last lap into corner 3.
Theys would fight back against Tyrrell when the 69 bike would lose
the rear end leading onto the back straight. Theys would hold his
line to pass the downed bike of Tyrrell and take the win and the
points that go with it. McComber riding a lonely race would finish
2nd. Race 1 Race one would start the same as qualifying with the 27 bike of
Theys taking the holeshot. Tyrrell would get stuck behind the 20
machine of McComber momentarily before passing the 12 year old to
catch up to Theys. This race would mirror the qualifying race with Theys riding strong
to lead Tyrrell when on the last lap the 69 bike would slide passed
Theys in the same spot into turn 3. Tyrrell fresh off a crash in
qualifying knew the limits of the rear tyre to ride smoothly for
the rest of the lap taking the win. Theys would finish a close 2nd
with McComber once again riding a lonely race to take 3rd. Race 2 For the final race of the event in the Junior B class, Theys once
again would get the holeshot over Tyrrell and McComber into turn
one. The 27 bike would start to gap the 69 of Tyrrell when a lose
chain would pop-off bringing Theys into the hot pits to remedy the
issue. This would allow Tyrrell to take over the lead without breaking
a sweat as McComber was half a lap behind. Theys would get back
onto the track after losing 2nd spot to McComber to chase down the
20 bike when a fuel line issue would halt the days action for Theys
resulting in a DNF. Ayrton would take the win with McComber in 2nd. |
