Round 3 of the 2009 PCMRC season took
place at none other then the Greg Moore Raceway in Chilliwack BC.
The well known karting circuit named after the late Greg Moore,
had been a destination for the PCMRC for a number of years with
this season being the first of what hopes to be many events to come.
The Motordirex Mini Moto boys took this as more of an opportunity
to familiarize themselves with the track and also get the bikes
sorted for the National event at GMR this August.
“That track is fun!” says Ayrton Tyrrell. “They wanted to shorten
it [the track] for the mini motos but I told them not to”. Ayrton
went on to qualify ahead of his team mate, Aiello and win the first
race as the 27 bike was having mechanical issues.
“I had the throttle on all the way and it wouldn’t go any faster!”
Aiello exclaimed in a bit of frustration. The 9 year old had the
hole shot for both the qualifying race and race one to only fall
behind the 69 machine of Tyrrell in a drag race to corner 3.
With the mechanical issues clearly illustrated on the 27 bike, the
team mates switched machines for the final race of the day. This
would really test the riding skills of Tyrrell knowing he was on
the slower bike compared to Theys. This would turn out to be a good
race with Tyrrell using his natural talents to pass Theys in the
corners only to lose the spot when Theys would power by. The two
mini moto riders would swap positions numerous times with the race
win going to Theys by less then half a bike length over Tyrrell.
This was Aiello's first race win!
Testing will resume at Camosun College this Sunday in preparation
for both national events in Quesnel and Chilliwack. |
